Description
2.0.0
Jumping from 1.0.0 to 2.0.0, as we're using much better method that makes this pack a lot easier to work with! Also introducing a version for versions before 1.21.5!
To use the pre-1.21.5 version of this pack, you'll need either OptiFine, CIT Resewn, or similar for it to work.

A simple resource pack that changes the texture of a given axe to be double headed if has either the Bane of Arthropods, Sharpness, or Smite enchantments applied to it.
I came up with the idea after a discusion I saw regarding the Smite enchantment on axes. And I thought, "what if the axe where to become a battle axe, if you had one of the combat focused enchantments applied?", and this is the result of that.
The textures are fairly simple, as I just took the existing vanilla axe textures and duplicated the axe head.
I may change the textures to look better sometime in the future.
Compatibility
As of version 2.0.0, this pack should work regardless of the combination of enchantments, enchantment level (for as long as it doesn't somehow exceed the vanilla 255 hard limit), and the use of any modded (or likewise) enchantments.
This is due having changed the method for detecting the enchantments, now using the method with the minecraft:condition type instead of the method with the minecraft:select type.
No longer do I have to generate 7200 combinations just to achieve minimal vanilla functionality!
So, now, as long as the axe has Bane of Arthropods, Smite, and/or Sharpness, it should work, regardless of level!
Note, if you want to add any other enchantment to the previously listed list (such as one added by a mod), you would have to manually add it.
I might decide on providing some addon resource packs for allowing compatibility with certain mods and other resource packs.
Below is the old content for this section which applies for version 1.0.0, and does not apply to version 2.0.0+
As of the time of writing, the pack should work completely in vanilla.
That is to say, abiding to current restrictions on what enchantments can and cannot be applied to an axe, max enchantment levels, and respecting mutully exculsive enchantments.
Any mod, datapack, or whathaveya, that may change any of this, I cannot guarantee compatibility.
This mainly due how Mojang chose to go about making the detection of enchantments work, requiring me to have to make a case for every possible combination of enchantments and each of their levels. For this pack, even when respecting mutually exculsive enchantments and max enchantment levels, the amount of combinations need is 7200.
And honestly, I'm surpised Minecraft can handle it. Cause the program I wrote to generate all the combinations couldn't unless I programmed in a delay.
In other words, as long as the axe has:
- At least level 1 of either the Smite, Bane of Arthropods, or Sharpness enchantments applied.
- The level of all applied enchantments is within their vanilla maximums.
- Only one of Sharpness or Smite or Bane of Arthropods, and Fortune or Silk Touch or neither.
- Only the vanilla set of allowed enchantments for an axe to have.
It should work fine.
Making a compatible addon resource pack
If you wish to change the textures used for the battle axes, then you should be able to do so by creating an addon resource pack.
Simply, just create a resource pack and place your replacement textures in the assets/minecraft/textures/item directory, and name them <material>_battle_axe.png, would be replaced with the material name of the axe. (diamond, golden, netherite, etc...)
Then make sure your addon pack is place above the main one in the resource pack list.
Possible future additions
- Override the enchantment overlay to be disabled if the only enchantment applied is either Bane of Arthropods, Smite, or Sharpness.
