Description

Adds variable day/night length based on latitude (z-coordinate) and positions the sun accordingly. Optionally adjusts the worldgen temperature so biome generation follows along.

The default setting for a full circumference is 40000 blocks, so north and south pole are 20000 blocks apart. You start (at around z-coordinate 0) in a temperate region. Moving 5000 blocks north (z=-5000) will get you to the north pole and moving 5000 blocks south will put you on the equator.

While the modified length of day and night is reflected in daylight detectors, clocks and monster spawning, there is no change in the time at which you can sleep. Near the poles this will be an extra challenge, since you cannot sleep through the early parts of the evening and morning when it is still dark (in winter).

Integrates with Serene Seasons to maximize the effects in winter. Combines well with Cold Sweat to get a realistic feel for the environment. Should support most Iris shaders.

Testing the effect

In creative game mode teleport to a pole and optionally set the season to winter to maximize the effect of this mod.

/tp 0 100 -5000 /season set mid_winter

Note on shaders

While most shaders should follow the seasonal day/night calculations, i.e. shorter days near the poles, some shaders use custom calculations for the angle at which the sun is placed in the sky. When this happens, try to find an option in the shaders settings that turns shader sun/moon off. The pack should then revert to the vanilla sun. If all else fails there is an option in the config to disable any attempts to reposition the sun when using shaders.
