Better Villagers

Better Villagers is a Fabric mod that changes how villagers choose where to walk by letting you assign custom path penalties to blocks.

A higher penalty makes villagers avoid that block more strongly. A lower penalty makes that block more attractive. The minimum penalty is 0, which means villagers will prefer it over blocks with higher penalties.

This lets you guide villager movement in a simple and configurable way. For example, you can make villagers avoid dangerous or annoying terrain like lava, magma blocks, or water, while encouraging them to use paths and safer walkways.

How It Works

Each configured block gets a penalty value:

• 0 = most preferred
• Higher values = more strongly avoided

Villagers will try to path through lower-penalty blocks when possible.
