Better on Java is for everyone: builders, explorers, engineers, mages, and cozy players alike. With fan-favorite mods and hidden gems, it’s an adventure for all. Read below for more information. Please note that only a few examples are shown and do not represent the complete contents, this is because there is really a lot of stuff!

Atmosphere and Immersion, Music, Sounds, Particles

Immersion and atmosphere (along with sound design) are key to a unique and engaging gameplay experience. I've always loved this kind of content, and Better on Java aims to enhance what Minecraft lacks the most! with shaders and more.

Inspired by Bedrock Edition add-ons like Realism+, this modpack captures and expands upon their aesthetic with even greater detail. You'll find new particle and visual effects, dynamic ambient sounds, cave reverb, cascading waterfalls, and improved visuals for campfires, leaves, and many other blocks.

The user interface has also been refined: custom inventory sounds, a shaking camera near explosions and thunder, distant birds, moths fluttering around lanterns, and countless other immersive details waiting to be discovered!

Biomes, Dungeons, and Structures

Explore a completely revamped world, including reworked vanilla biomes and over 150+ new ones. Wander through lush meadows, enchanted forests, hostile deserts, and breathtaking wisteria groves. Discover new structures, ruins, dungeons, and more—both above and below ground!

The underground is now richer than ever, featuring deep dungeons, eerie spider nests, rare bioluminescent caves, and much more. Even structures like the stronghold have been upgraded, making the path to the End more challenging. Ender Eyes are now scattered across different biomes, and some guarded by bosses. Do you have what it takes?

Blocks, Tools, Weapons, and Armors

Discover an incredible variety of blocks to build with, making this a true paradise for every builder! But if interior design is more your style, you'll be spoiled for choice with countless furniture options, including beds, desks, sofas, curtains, lamps, decorations, and much more. And when you're out adventuring, gear up with dazzling armor and formidable swords to face the dangers of this world!

Gameplay Mechanics

Experience true survival! Have you ever felt like Minecraft’s survival mechanics were too easy, with only hunger to manage? Whether your answer is yes or no, real survival now includes thirst and body temperature! You'll need to pay attention to biomes to maximize your chances of survival—beware of scorching deserts and freezing tundras. Even the seasons will play a role! You'll cycle through all four: summer, spring, autumn, and winter.

Weather conditions are also affected—expect heavier rainfall in summer, while in winter, crops will struggle to grow due to the harsh climate. But don't worry, you'll have all the tools to stay warm, cool, and safe. Quests will be an integral part of your adventure (optional and still in development)!

Dimensions & Bosses

The End and the Nether have been completely reimagined, now featuring countless new biomes, structures, dungeons, and monsters, bringing an unprecedented level of diversity. But that's not all… new dimensions await beyond these realms, though we’ll leave the thrill of discovery to you.

Even the spawn island and the battle against the Ender Dragon have been completely revamped and enhanced, making the final showdown more epic than ever.

New bosses and mini-bosses have emerged in this world, dangerous creatures born from the shadows. Defeat them and claim your reward!

Magic & Tech

In this world, you can be whoever you want: an explorer, a warrior, a skilled mage, or an incredible engineer. If you love experimenting, building elaborate farms, or designing rail-based machines, you can do it! Create anything from complex contraptions to fully functional trains or even a simple steam-powered vehicle.

If mechanics and engineering aren't your thing, immerse yourself in the world of magic. Explore enchanted realms, uncover ancient spell scrolls, master new enchantments, and upgrade your gear to unlock your true power.

Quality of Life & Performance

Better on Java also means an improved overall quality of life in the game. Enjoy new features like chests made from different materials, bookshelves, stair variants, and more. Discover mob variations, customizable item frames (which work like armor coloring, so you can unleash your creativity with any color!), and a handy pickup notification that displays collected items in the bottom right corner. And that's just the beginning, enhancements span both aesthetics and functionality.

We also know that running Minecraft, especially with mods and extensive graphical or content-heavy additions, can be challenging. But don't worry about performance! This modpack is designed to be versatile for all players, offering options to disable shaders, adjust Distant Horizons LOD settings, and more. Plus, it includes multiple performance-boosting mods to minimize lag and keep your experience smooth!

Forge + Fabric Mods

Once, we thought it was impossible. Today, it's a reality! Have you ever struggled to choose a mod loader because some of your favorite mods were on Forge while others were on Fabric, forcing you to give something up? Well, not anymore!

Better on Java leverages Connector technology to bring your favorite mods together in a single modpack, letting you experience the ultimate survival adventure bringing together the best of both modding platforms.

• Recommended to run with a minimum of 4 GB of memory. Use 6 or 8 GB for best performance.
• Shaders are disabled by default. Press "P" to toggle them on/off.
• Requires Java 17 or higher.
• Do not install OptiFine. The modpack already includes mods for shaders, connected textures, CIT, and all OptiFine features. OptiFine breaks mod compatibility.

1. Is this modpack the official counterpart of Better on Bedrock?
   No, it is in no way associated with Better on Bedrock, which is a Marketplace product. The name was chosen ironically for Java Edition! You can consider it a spiritual counterpart, but with many more improvements and content compared to the Bedrock version. Plus, it’s completely free, modular, and offers a richer experience without Bedrock Edition’s limitations. Despite that, since it's not a port, they still offer two different gaming experiences. 2. Is Java Edition really better than Bedrock Edition?
   It depends. When it comes to paid content, yes, but in general, it's up to the user to choose based on where they prefer to play. This modpack isn't a direct port, and they are two different gaming experiences.
3. I only play on Bedrock Edition! Will there be a Bedrock version?
   No, this modpack is exclusive to Java Edition. If you play on Bedrock, you can try Better on Bedrock, but keep in mind that many Marketplace contents are paid, and you often need extra add-ons to fully enrich the experience.
4. Can I play this modpack on a server with friends?
   Yes! A detailed guide on how to set up a server will be available in the wiki soon. For now, you can use Essential or e4mc to play with friends.
5. Do I need a high-end PC to run this modpack?
   Not necessarily. The modpack is optimized to run on most PCs. However, for the best experience, we recommend allocating at least 6-8 GB of RAM. You can also tweak settings to improve performance.
6. Will this modpack receive updates?
   Yes! Updates will be released periodically to improve performance, fix bugs, and add new content. Keep an eye on the changelog for details.
