Description
Analog is a simple mod that adds a new, yet familiar, analog clock to decorate your home. Ever felt a little dissatisfied with the clock-in-a-frame being your only option to hang up on the wall? This new clock, made with a brass frame, light faded dial, and bold hands, is sure to revamp the aesthetic and fit right in with your home decor while feeling true to the vanilla style.
Analog Clock
- Tells the in-game time
- Hang on a wall
- Mount to the side of a block
- Place flush in a wall
Automatic Wind-Up
- When placed, the clock winds itself to the right time
- When the game is paused, the clock stops ticking
- In the Nether and the End, the clock spins chaotically
Customizable Dial (Beta)
- Tint the face with dyes
- Remove dyes by using a brush (dye is not retrievable)
- plate the clock hands & markings with metals (nuggets)
- Remove (and recover) metal plating by using a pickaxe
- Dye and plating persist when clock is broken and replaced!
How To Craft
The makeup of the analog clock alludes to the process of making brass, a highly-used metal in clockmaking, by combining copper and iron (in the real world, copper and zinc are used). Combined with a quartz crystal for consistent ticking and redstone dust to power the device, the recipe can be visualized below, and is always available in the recipe book.
- 4 Copper Ingots at the corners
- 3 Iron Ingots on the top and sides
- 1 Quartz at the bottom
- 1 Redstone Dust in the center
Amethyst Pendulum
- Complements the analog clock
- Can be placed underneath solid blocks or attached directly to the clock
- Makes tick-tocking sounds
A Daytime Indicator
- Contains an amethyst gemstone which catches light and changes color throughout the day
- In the Nether, the gemstone shimmers in shades of bright and deep red
Four-time Chime (Beta)
- Place a bell behind the pendulum to enable the chime
- Chime jingles will be played at sunrise, noon, sunset, and midnight
- During chime, bell sounds and swings (without alerting villagers or raids)
- Chimes only play in the Overworld
How To Craft
The pendulum is able to catch daylight and ambient light due to the amethyst gemstone, which is also used in items such as tinted glass and the spyglass. With it are combined the copper and iron to form the brass rod that allows the pendulum to swing.
- 1 Copper Ingot at the top
- 1 Iron Ingot in the middle
- 1 Amethyst Shard at the bottom
Planned Features
Analog Clock
- Customizable frame (metals? woods?)
- Allow syncing to the real-world time instead of in-game time (config?)
- Keep clock wound to when broken, re-syncs from that time when replaced (config?)
- Output comparator signal
Amethyst Pendulum
- Customizable rod (following above frame customizations)
Compatibility
Analog is designed to feel like a natural extension to vanilla Minecraft, which means:
- Unobtrusive, minimal gameplay changes
- Vanilla-style textures, models, and animations
- Optimized and performance-friendly implementation
This mod relies on the assumption that a Minecraft day is 20 minutes (24,000 in-game ticks) long. Any mods that change this or alter the times of day may interfere with how the clock tells time. Otherwise, this mod should be 100% compatible with other mods and datapacks, as well as multiplayer servers and realms.
If you would like to see support for a mod that changes aspects of the in-game day or world time, have a suggestion, or encounter any issues with the mod, please reach out on GitHub!
