What type of modpack is Truly Better Origins?

Truly Better Origins (TBO) is a modpack designed to enhance the vanilla Minecraft experience while preserving its core features. To begin, world generation creates massive continents where new and familiar biomes blend, encouraging exploration. Additionally, underground terrain features complex, sprawling caves and introduces bottomless depths for intricate navigation. Epic Structures adds vast dungeons and new villages, while Grim Kingdoms inserts shadowy castles and settlements filled with secrets. Building on this, mods from SuperWarioModTeam bring new architectural styles and fresh survival challenges. Key additions include more food varieties, umbrellas to help during adverse weather, and trim mods that improve player stats. Collectively, these features expand gameplay for select origins while keeping game immersion.

Major updates start at character creation. Here, you choose from new origins—mod-added lineages that grant specific ability bonuses such as improved health, increased speed, or enhanced crafting efficiency, directly influencing how you perform in the early game. Next, select modded classes and backgrounds with distinctive skill sets that define your available strategies and roles, such as combat specializations or resource-gathering advantages. You can also customize your look using the MCA mod, adding modern features like new hairstyles or clothing options, or keep your current skin for a traditional style, which maintains the classic appearance. Once the setup is complete, you begin in a random spawn, a resource-rich village, or a mysterious ancient city. Each location presents unique early-game challenges—like hostile environments or abundant resources—and strategic benefits, such as easier access to tools or opportunities for quicker expansion. These factors further shape your gameplay experience from the start.

Additionally, although it may not be immediately apparent, we've added Ears by Exaptations. This mod enables players to design custom cosmetic features—such as claws, horns, tails, and wings—that do not impact gameplay. These features must be illustrated manually. With all these enhancements in place, what else can I expect?

For instance, those who either choose or are fortunate enough to happen upon a village will not only notice the wonderful changes and maybe even new shops, but will also notice that these villages are without order! With MCA, you can elect yourself as the mayor of any village and work with the villagers to help them build a better life. They will have specific buildings and requirements for them when being built, and even if all of them die, you can still repopulate using the inn building to offer residence to any of the adventurers passing through.

If village life isn't for you, there are other options. You can become a witch, settle in a swamp, and start your own coven. Craft poppets and bind them with your enemies' or friends' blood for some light trolling. Make potions with up to three combined effects. Still looking for more? Consider exploring the Nether, the End, or the Twilight Forest. More options may be added in the future.

To enhance your adventure, we've included mods that add compact discoverable rooms, new mineshafts, and sprawling dungeons below ground. While the modpack may not contain major new bosses besides vanilla and Twilight Forest, it offers variety to vanilla mobs—like creepers, endermen, skeletons, and zombies—each with unique interactions. Some mid-tier bosses also exist, waiting to be found.
