Overview

The InterCity 225 is a high-speed electric push-pull train introduced by British Rail between 1989 and 1991, as part of the modernization of the East Coast Main Line. It consists of a Class 91 electric locomotive, nine Mark 4 coaches, and a Driving Van Trailer (DVT). The locomotive was built by BREL (Crewe Works), while the coaches and DVT were constructed by Metro-Cammell in Birmingham and Breda in Italy.

Designed for speeds up to 140 mph (225 km/h), the train is limited in regular service to 125 mph (201 km/h) due to signaling and infrastructure constraints. The Class 91 locomotive delivers around 4.7 MW (6,300 hp) at the rails. A notable achievement occurred during testing on 17 September 1989, when locomotive 91010 reached a British electric locomotive speed record of 161.7 mph.

The standard formation includes a locomotive at the north end, followed by nine Mark 4 coaches—including both standard and first-class seating—culminating in the DVT at the London end. This configuration provides a total capacity of 535 seats, with 406 standard-class and 129 first-class seats.

InterCity 225 in Minecraft (MTR mod)

This resource pack adds the InterCity 225 into Minecraft using the Minecraft Transit Railway mod. The original model was created by cw_315 for Transport Fever 2 and was ported to Minecraft by Vitor2005 in 2025. It is compatible with both MTR3 and MTR4.
