Overview

Clear The Video Memory is a performance optimization mod designed to combat performance degradation caused by Video Memory (VRAM) accumulation. It automatically cleans up unused VRAM to help maintain smoother frame rates and reduce stuttering during long Minecraft sessions, especially in large modpacks.

What It Does

Minecraft and its mods do not always perfectly manage VRAM, leading to gradual memory buildup over time. This mod works automatically in the background to clear out this accumulated, unused VRAM, freeing it up for the game to use again. This process helps to restore performance that was lost due to memory leaks and fragmentation.

• Automatic Startup Cleanup: Ensures you begin every game session with a fresh VRAM state.

• Configurable Scheduled Cleanup: The mod can be set to automatically perform a cleanup at regular intervals during your gameplay.

  • Note: The cleanup schedule is fully automatic. There is no keybind for a manual trigger.

• Enhanced Cleaning Algorithm: Provides a more thorough VRAM release compared to the initial version for a greater performance benefit.

Important Notes & Configuration

• Focused Optimization: This mod is most effective at solving performance that gets worse over time. It helps restore lost performance rather than magically increasing your FPS cap.

• Automatic Only: All cleanups are performed automatically based on your settings. The mod provides two automatic modes: on startup, and on a repeating timer.

• Configuration:
  After the first run, a clear-the-video-memory.toml file will be generated in your /config folder.

  • enableStartupClean: Set to true or false to toggle cleanup when the game starts.

  • cleanupInterval: Sets the time in minutes between automatic cleanups.

  • Minimum Value: The smallest allowed value is 1. A value of 1 will clean every minute. A value of 0 is not supported and will be ignored.
