Description

SSC True Feral Addon Experience what it's really like to be a feral creature. No hands, no inventory - just you, your instincts, and the wilderness. This addon takes the Shape Shifter Curse transformation to the next level, adding authentic animal survival mechanics, focused more on playing like a real feral animal. You even see your own snout (or fangs) in first person now.

Overview

True Feral Addon is an overhaul of the feral transformation experience in Shape Shifter Curse. When you transform into your final feral form, you lose access to human conveniences and have to adapt to a completely new way of surviving in Minecraft.

Key Philosophy:

Realistic Animal Behavior - No using chests, crafting tables, or tools

Mouth-Only Inventory - Carry items in your mouth like a real animal

First-Person Snout - Actually see your muzzle (or fangs) while you play

Survival Challenges - Weight system, limited carrying capacity, and environmental restrictions

Curl Up - Lie down on the ground and sleep like a real animal

Fully Configurable - Customize every aspect to fit your playstyle

Multiplayer Ready - All the features work on multiplayer servers

Core Features

Mouth-Only Inventory

When feral, your entire inventory is restricted to a single slot - your mouth. Choose wisely what you carry! (You can turn this off, and you can also pick how many hotbar slots you keep.)

Carry one item at a time in your mouth

Drop items by pressing the drop key

When you go feral, everything that doesn't fit gets dropped on the ground - your items and any equipped armor, except morphscale-based armor and your first slot. The locked slots stay locked while you're feral, so you can't grab more off the ground.

Note: the more humanoid "taur" forms - axolotl, spider and allay - still have hands, so they keep their full inventory instead of being mouth-only. (This is a toggle if you'd rather they were restricted too.)

First-Person Snout & Fangs

You can finally see yourself when you're transformed. Each feral form shows its own muzzle in first person - fox, wolf, cat, bat and axolotl - and the spider shows its fangs instead. The snout reacts to your head movement with a little physics sway, so it feels alive rather than glued to the screen.

Everything is adjustable in the config: turn it on or off, change the size and opacity, toggle the sway and how strong it is, and nudge it up or down. There's also a keybind (default K) to hide or show it on the fly.

(This used to be a separate addon, the "SSC Snout Visualizer" - it's now built straight into True Feral, so you only need this one mod.)

Curl Up

Sleep like a real animal - no bed required! Just curl up on the ground when you're tired. How it works:

Press the Curl Up keybind (configurable)

Your feral character lies down flat on the ground

Sleep through the night like any other animal

Wake up when morning comes

Requirements (configurable):

Must be nighttime or raining

Must be on solid ground

Must be in a feral form

You'll also slowly heal while you're curled up, if you leave that option on. Works with the vanilla sleep-percentage gamerule, and other players see you lying down correctly.

Dynamic Weight System

Not all items weigh the same! Heavier items slow you down and affect your mobility. Weight Classes:

Light (1 item) - No penalties - perfect for small items like berries

Medium (2-3 items) - Slight slowdown - tools and food

Heavy (4+ items) - Severe penalties - blocks, armor, weapons

Reduced movement speed

Lower jump height

Mining fatigue

Exhaustion sounds

Weight Penalties (configurable):

Light: 0% penalty (default)

Medium: 30% speed reduction (default)

Heavy: 60% speed reduction + jump/mining penalties (default)

Special feature: eat a Feral Feast to get temporary weight immunity!

Animal Communication System

Feral players speak in animal sounds that humans can't understand! Features:

Chat messages show up as the matching animal sounds to non-feral players

A Translation Core item lets humans understand you

Different sounds for every animal in chat (including the spider and allay)

Configurable sound effects

Example: You type: "Help me!" Non-ferals see: "Arooo! Woof woof!" Feral players see: "Help me!"

Custom Items

Translation Core

A magical device that lets humans understand animal speech.

Feral Feast

A nutritious meal that temporarily removes weight penalties.

Carve Logs

You can carve logs now!

How it works: hold a Bone in your hand, then Shift (Sneak) + Right Click on any log.

Result: you carve the log into something you can use as a crafting table. Simple, primitive, and effective.

FAQ:

Q: Is this a standalone mod? A: No. This is an addon for the Shape Shifter Curse mod. You need the base mod (1.9.1) installed for this to work.

Q: Do I still need the Snout Visualizer addon? A: No. It's now part of True Feral, so this single mod covers both.

Q: Who created the original transformation system? A: All credit for the incredible base transformation mechanics goes to Onixary, the creator of Shape Shifter Curse. This addon just expands on their vision to add more realism.

Q: I found a bug! What should I do? A: Please remember this is my very first modding project, so a few bugs are expected. Your patience is really appreciated!

Q: Can I use this in my modpack? A: Yes! You're free to include this in any modpack on Modrinth or CurseForge, as long as you don't re-upload the file elsewhere.

Q: Does it work on servers? A: Yes, it works in multiplayer. Both the server and the players need the mod installed.

Originally, True Feral was a personal project I made just for myself. I wanted a way to make my solo survival runs more immersive while playing with the Shape Shifter Curse. But after seeing how much it changed the gameplay, I decided it was too much fun to keep to myself.
