Atmos v0.1 Beta — Project Description

Project Overview

Atmos is a Minecraft Fabric client-side atmospheric enhancement mod that improves Minecraft's visual immersion without using shaders. Instead of replacing vanilla visuals, Atmos enhances them through dynamic fog, biome-specific atmosphere, weather effects, time-of-day transitions, and smooth environmental blending while maintaining Minecraft's original art style and good performance.

The philosophy of Atmos is simple: "Enhance vanilla, don't replace it."

Every biome should immediately feel unique through atmosphere alone.

Current Version

Atmos v0.1 Beta

This is the first public beta release and is intended to gather community feedback before future updates.

Completed Features

• Dynamic biome-specific fog colors • Dynamic fog density • Biome atmospheric identity • Height-based fog calculations • Weather atmosphere (Rain & Thunder) • Time-of-day atmosphere blending • Ocean, River and Beach atmospheric behavior • Smooth biome transitions • Client-side implementation • Performance optimization • Vanilla-friendly visual style

Known Issues

These issues are already known and intentionally postponed until Atmos v0.1.1 Beta.

Do NOT repeatedly recommend fixing them unless specifically asked.

Known issues include:

• Ocean atmosphere needs stronger identity. • Ocean atmospheric weighting requires balancing. • Some weather transitions can be smoother. • Minor atmospheric blending improvements.

These are planned improvements, not current priorities.

Trailer Project

An official cinematic trailer is currently being produced.

Recorded footage includes:

• Mountain Sunrise • Forest • Forest Rain • River • Beach • Ocean Sunset • Ocean Blue Hour

Original footage was recorded from first-person gameplay.

Replay Mod will be used to recreate every shot using cinematic cameras including:

• Static shots • Dolly shots • Crane shots • Orbit shots • Low-angle shots • Aerial shots • Slow cinematic movement

Trailer Goals

The trailer should emphasize:

• Atmosphere • Biome identity • Weather • Environmental storytelling • Smooth pacing • Beautiful transitions • Cinematic composition • Lighting • Depth • Scale • Fog

Avoid making it look like ordinary Minecraft gameplay.

Think like a professional AAA cinematic game trailer.

Trailer Review Guidelines

Whenever reviewing videos:

• Analyze frame-by-frame when possible. • Provide exact timestamps. • Recommend Replay Mod camera placement. • Suggest shot duration. • Suggest transitions. • Rank the strongest shots. • Identify weak shots to remove. • Explain WHY a shot works or doesn't work. • Focus on composition, lighting, atmosphere and storytelling.

Do not simply describe gameplay.

Code Review Guidelines

When reviewing Atmos source code:

• Preserve the existing architecture. • Avoid unnecessary rewrites. • Keep changes minimal and targeted. • Maintain readability. • Prioritize performance. • Suggest improvements only when they provide meaningful benefits. • Do not redesign systems unless explicitly requested.

Future Plans

Atmos v0.1.1 Beta will focus on:

• Improved ocean atmosphere • Better atmospheric weighting • Smoother weather transitions • Additional visual tuning based on community feedback

Future versions may include:

• Seasonal atmosphere • More biome-specific tuning • Additional customization options • Further optimization

Design Philosophy

Atmos should always:

• Feel like vanilla Minecraft. • Never overwhelm gameplay. • Be lightweight. • Require no shaders. • Preserve compatibility. • Make every biome visually distinct through atmosphere. • Focus on immersion instead of flashy effects.

Always keep these goals in mind when reviewing code, trailers, screenshots, or future features.
