Skyseed

Modpack

by Gemberkoekman

A terraforming skyblock modpack. Craft a Skyseed, throw it into open air, and ~2 seconds later a procedurally generated, themed sky island germinates where it comes to rest. Progression is driven by exploration + crafting, not block-condensing.

Skyseed

Grow your skyblock instead of bridging it out — with the conveniences a long playthrough deserves.

At the heart of this pack is Skyseed, and it stays exactly what it is. You craft a seed, throw it into open air, and a couple of seconds later it sprouts a floating island stocked with whatever that seed grows: trees, ore, a pond, a village, a dungeon. You start on a small island with one tree and grow your world out across the sky, into the Nether, and on to the End.

What's added around it is a small, deliberately chosen set of quality-of-life mods — no new blocks, no new items, no new mobs. Just the tools that make a long skyblock pleasant to play. Everything you grow is still plain vanilla, so all of it works out of the box: the recipe viewer lists every seed, the map fills in as your archipelago spreads, and vein mining fells a whole tree in a single swing.

What's in it

  • Just Enough Items (JEI) — the recipe viewer. Every Skyseed recipe shows up, so you can look up how to craft any seed without leaving the game.
  • Jade — a "what am I looking at" tooltip. Point at anything and it tells you the block and the tool it takes to break it.
  • Xaero's Minimap + World Map — map the void. Drop a waypoint on each island you grow so you can always find your way back across all that empty sky.
  • Vein Mining — hold a key while you break an ore or a log and the whole vein or tree comes down at once. It only ever grabs ores and logs, so it can't mine the island out from under you, and it costs a little hunger so you can't lean on it forever.
  • AppleSkin — food and saturation on the HUD, so you can see exactly what a meal is worth.
  • Performance — Embeddium, FerriteCore, ModernFix, EntityCulling, FPS Reducer and Clumps: smoother frames and lower memory use, with no change to how anything actually plays.
  • Small comforts — Mouse Tweaks and Controlling for tidier inventory and keybind screens, and Fast Leaf Decay so a felled tree doesn't leave leaves hanging in the air.
  • Patchouli — powers Skyseed's illustrated Skyfarer's Almanac (the guidebook falls back to a plain written book without it).

The idea

Keep Skyseed exactly as it is, and just smooth the edges. Nothing here changes the islands you grow or the order you grow them in — it only makes the hours in between easier: less time hunting recipes, less time lost in the void, less time chopping the same tree block by block.

Coming soon: A bigger adventure — tech, magic, farming and automation grown from the same seeds — Skyseed: Grow Your Own World.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.21.1
  • NeoForge

For single-player, just install the pack and go. If you host a server, the client-only mods (the maps, JEI, Jade, the performance and control mods) can sit on the client alone — but there's no harm in running everything everywhere.
