Description

《▓ Alex's Mobs: Tweaks ▓》

Powered by Quantified API

《▒ What It Does ▒》

Alex's Mobs: Tweaks, or AMT, is a lightweight performance addon that fixes several expensive Alex's Mobs and Citadel hot paths without changing how the mobs are supposed to behave.

Some systems inside Alex's Mobs do a LOT more work than they really need to. One example literally sorted an entire candidate list just to find the nearest valid mob xd.

AMT replaces those paths with much cheaper exact alternatives, including a stable linear nearest candidate pass, and routes compatible pathfinding through Quantified API's controlled worker lanes.

This means lower MSPT, fewer nasty tick spikes, less random CPU abuse and a LOT more room for everything else to run :DDD

Same mobs, same behaviour, substantially less CPU bullying.

《▒ FPS Gains Are A BIG Part Of AMT ▒》

AMT is NOT just some server TPS mod btw. It can make a really noticeable difference to client FPS too, especially when you're around a ton of Alex's Mobs entities at once.

Crowded Alex's Mobs areas are where this thing tends to cook the most. If Alex's Mobs is eating a large chunk of your CPU, AMT can free up a pretty stupid amount of it, which means higher FPS, smoother frametimes and way less stuttering :DDD

Users testing it in mob heavy environments have seen some pretty damn big performance jumps, so if your world has a lot of Alex's Mobs running around, this is probably where you'll notice AMT the most.

Basically, the more cursed the mob load gets, the more AMT has to optimise xd.

《▒ Real Server Performance ▒》

Paired Forge server test using the same persisted world, the same 372 entities and the same 60 second Spark window:

MetricNormal Alex's MobsWith AMTGainEntities372372Same workloadMean MSPT10.5898.07723.72% lowerMedian MSPT9.9137.72922.03% lowerP95 MSPT17.76612.80727.91% lowerWorst Tick67.166 ms40.491 ms39.72% lowerTPS Under Load20.000119.999620 TPS maintained

Both runs alr maintained 20 TPS, so the real win here is lower tick cost, way better p95 stability and a FAR smaller worst tick. Exact gains will ofc depend on your world, entity count and modpack.

《▒ Puffish Hot Path ▒》

One of the main fixes replaces Puffish's full candidate sorting with one stable linear nearest candidate pass.

Candidate CountMeasured Speedup64 candidates44.71x256 candidates34.81x1,024 candidates147.25x4,096 candidates80.54x

32,768 randomized correctness cases passed with the same nearest candidate and stable tie behaviour.

《▒ Quantified API Integration ▒》

Compatible path search work gets routed through Quantified API's bounded background lane instead of being dumped into some generic executor and left to fight everything else xd.

Quantified API handles scheduling, task ownership and diagnostics while Minecraft sensitive work stays on the correct thread.

《▒ Compatibility ▒》

Requires Quantified API V2.

On Minecraft 1.20.1, AMT supports the official Alex's Mobs release alongside Citadel.

Starting with AMT V1.2.0, all newer Minecraft versions use Alex's Mobs Continued instead :]

This means newer versions no longer rely on separate Citadel ports. AMT also includes the required CodxLib compatibility for Alex's Mobs Continued.

Currently supported versions:

  • Minecraft 1.20.1 with the official Alex's Mobs release
  • Minecraft 1.21.1 with Alex's Mobs Continued
  • Minecraft 1.21.11 with Alex's Mobs Continued
  • Minecraft 26.1 with Alex's Mobs Continued
  • Minecraft 26.2 with Alex's Mobs Continued

Supported loaders depend on the Minecraft version and Alex's Mobs Continued release available for it.

Dependencies:

  • Minecraft 1.20.1 requires Alex's Mobs, Citadel and Quantified API V2
  • Newer versions require Alex's Mobs Continued, CodxLib and Quantified API V2

AMT V1.1.0 previously supported several unofficial Alex's Mobs ports. Support for those ports ended with V1.1.0. V1.2.0 and newer use Alex's Mobs Continued for all newer Minecraft versions.

《▒ Licensing and Support ▒》

Licensed under BRSSLA V1.5, which is free for personal and non-commercial use.

Found a bug, got an idea, or somehow found another Alex's Mobs method sorting half the planet for one result? Feel free to report it :]
