Warring Nations

Create nations, claim territory, establish governments and economies, and wage wars or negotiate peace with other nations. Warring Nations uses FTB Teams and FTB Chunks as its foundation. Nations are FTB teams and territory uses FTB Chunks claims, keeping membership and claims integrated with the existing FTB systems.

Documentation: The Warring Nations wiki covers the mechanics, commands, configuration, and developer API in detail.

Nations and roles

Nations are fully configurable. Create your own roles and permissions instead of being limited to a fixed hierarchy. Each role can use any combination of 17 independent permissions and can be managed in-game or through commands.

Nations can also use custom flags, tags, and colors. Choose from 174 built-in designs or create a custom flag using the included heraldry tools. Nation colors can be displayed in chat, the tab list, player nametags, and supported maps.

Wars and diplomacy

Warring Nations includes 10 war types, each using the same underlying war system with different objectives and rules.

Wars can focus on capturing territory, reducing an opponent's military strength, completing sieges, or controlling specific objectives. The system includes types such as Chunk Capture, Attrition, Breach, Risk, Trench Warfare, and Total War, with additional types available through the war type system.

War types are file-defined and reloadable, allowing server owners to adjust existing types or create their own.

Peace agreements use the war's final score to determine available terms. Depending on the war and configuration, this can include territory transfers, reparations, tribute, vassalage, or white peace. See the peace and diplomacy guide for details.

Governments and economies

Nations can be expanded with additional political and economic systems.

  • Vassals and colonies: create hierarchical relationships between nations.
  • Rebellions: allow provinces and territories to break away and form new nations.
  • Governments: create systems ranging from monarchies to representative and federal governments.
  • Treasuries: manage shared national funds and economic systems.
  • Bounties: place rewards on players or opposing leaders.
  • War betting: allow configured betting systems around wars.
  • King of the Hill: create recurring objectives for nations to contest.
  • Villages: allow sub-nation territories to be sieged and captured.

These systems are configurable and can be enabled or disabled depending on the server's ruleset. The government and economy guide explains how they work together.

Presets

Warring Nations includes 627 presets covering historical, fictional, and custom scenarios. Collections range from Ancient and Medieval settings through modern and Cold War scenarios, along with Fantasy, Post-Apocalyptic, and Alternate-History presets.

Presets can configure governments, economies, roles, war settings, and other nation systems at once. They can be previewed before being applied and reverted afterward.

Some presets also include predefined sub-nations, such as the 50 US states and their capitals in the modern US preset. Server owners can create and export their own presets.

Browse the available presets in the preset catalog.

Server administration and addons

Most systems can be configured individually, allowing server owners to enable only the mechanics they want. Approval gates and claim protection are enabled by default, while economic systems can be configured or disabled depending on the server.

Every command has a corresponding NeoForge permission node, allowing permissions to be delegated through systems such as LuckPerms without requiring operator access.

Warring Nations stores its state in vanilla world saved data, so standard world backups also cover nation data.

The mod also provides a public API and extension registries used by addons such as WN Siege, WN Discord, and WN BlueMap. The API reference and architecture overview cover the available extension points.

Companion addons

  • WN Siege: extends claim and war protection to supported Create, weapon, and explosive mods.
  • WN Discord: provides Discord integration, including two-way chat, staff approvals, dashboards, and nation management.
  • WN BlueMap: displays nation territory, wars, villages, and diplomatic relations on BlueMap.
