Description

  1. -What is all of this? The Neverhoods are a collection of curated Thaumcraft 4 mods and addons that have been well crafted, brewed, and finely sifted together featuring Thaumcraft's version 1.7.10 glory days. With Azanor's (Thaumcraft's creator) retirement to his well hidden hermitage, and with Thaumcraft 7's ongoing developer hell, old server communities and administrators gathered together to create the perfect, pristine, most complete and well fleshed out Thaumcraft experience. If you want a Thaumcraft primary modpack, with no extra distracting secondary fluff bits and a plethora of beautification, optimization, and biome or dimension additions, look no further: This is what you have been looking for, and yes it's constantly kept up to date and actively bugfix'd.

-What is a Thaumcraft? The Neverhoods? What's does all of this mean?- For those of you who are new and looking in on this olden gold nugget of history, Thaumcraft was one of the greatest magic systems ever devised in Minecraft's storied past. You take on the role of a Thaumaturge (that's a Miracle Worker, mind you), and it is something of a cross between a Wizard, an Artificer, an Alchemist, and a Psychic, or all of the above. Except for the added dimensions and general Vanilla+ beautification, Thaumcraft is the primary purpose of this pack, and has many addons and expansions made by both me and others. I won't spoil this for you, so my recommendation to newcomers is simple: Begin first by crafting a wand (2x wand caps from 10 iron nuggets in a cup shape on either side of a stick in a crafting table), then use it on a bookshelf to find the Thaumonomicon, the single item that will guide you through the rest of everything else.

-The Neverhoods then? The name of the modpack. You are very welcome and permitted to use the modpack at home or your own local server, and server files are also found here. You may not include this modpack in another pack nor claim it for your own. You may share the word of this resurgence and invite whoever you wish it. You may dip the modpack and fry it in exotic butters.   -Who is responsible? You seem familiar, do I know you from anything? - Unlikely.   -Important Extra Installation Instructions - This modpack is a major modpack and is not lightweight. To assist with minecraft's weighty engine needs, lwjgl3ify has been included. This inclusion changes the java version Minecraft uses from it's ancient 2012 version to the current latest version for a million engine overhaul reasons, the least of which being speed and security vulnerabilities. Because of this, you must install Java version 21 or later on your machine for this to function. Upon your very first launch, it will ask you where your javaw.exe file is. After you install it, it is typically located in C:\Program Files\Java\jdk-21\bin\javaw.exe. You'll only need to do this once. Additionally, this modpack is recommended to have at least 8 gb of ram allocated to it, which is preconfigured for you if you used Curseforge. You can download Java version 21 here: https://www.oracle.com/java/technologies/downloads/#jdk25-windows. Installation of this latest family version of Java is not optional for this modpack.   -I'm having an issue installing the modpack!- Take your questions to the troubleshooting channel in my discord, and someone might assist. The modpack is preened over to be as well-crafted an experience of its magnitude deserves, and its installation should be identical to most other modpacks installed on a fresh installation of Forge with 1.7.10 Minecraft. You don't need to do anything special, download Curseforge to your machine, search "Neverhoods", click install, and that's it. Include pictures and logs of errors when you can, lazy statements like "Help it no work!" will likely be ignored. Remember, it is your duty to ensure your machine is up to snuff to accept a clean installation, but if it is quite reasonably, I will happily assist when I have a moment. The mod pack is very well tested and always released in clean, known working states, and is supported for any OS type (that can have Java installed on it of course).   -Is there a forum or website for this community?- There is a Discord channel, the link is a little lower down.   -Such and such version is more up to date! When you update to the latest version?- Minecraft has several "major modding seasons", version 1.7.10, version 1.12.2, version 1.16, 1.21, and so on. Making a mod or modpack is an extraordinary amount of work, and due to the nature of Java, switching versions can wildly destroy or invalidate enormous libraries worth of code, sometimes for only a few added mobs or item entries. Of the many versions Thaumcraft was developed for, the versions and addons of 1.7.10 is noted to have the most completed content, updated by many talented authors even to this very day. The latest version may not always =/= the best version (personal preference always trumps of course), as each edition created sometimes had enormous sections skipped over or redrawn as time crunch after time crunch ate away at the content with each version. It will not be updated to any future edition, though the modpack maker is pondering 1.21 as soon as Thaumcraft 7 is released from the CoFH team and depending on their quality.   -What's with the added dimensions/how do I get there?- Thaumcraft is an incredible magical system with a flourishing, well made and well thought out set of addons to match. It is befitting the majesty of this collaboration and collection to have an equally majestic and expansive list of things to do and lands to explore. Here are the Neverhoods of Thaumcraft, each chosen as part of our planar chaos adventure. The Dimensions you can go to are as follows:

The Erebus: An insectile world composed of roofed shelves of earth, reminescent of the plane of Earth. Create a 5x6 empty rectangle made of smooth stone, then fill every square of it with leaves. Create a Gaean gem, a Staff of Gaea, and a Gaean keystone at least 4 blocks away and you will be able to enter the dimension of Life with everything slotted into the keystone. You can find more details how to get there in here: Link.
The Nether: As you might imagine, a 4x5 empty rectangle of obsidian with a fire set in the center will take you to this hellish dimension, though if you are a veteran to Minecraft, you will find MY Nether to be...significantly different than what you remember.
The Betweenlands: You will need a fully completed Swamp talisman with all 4 parts crafted using a Druidic Altar, found in the boggier biomes of the world. Slay spirits that spawn around such Druidic circles/ruins to find the pieces. Then, simply take a sapling to a wide open area, place it, and use the talisman on it.
The Aether: Create a 4x5 empty rectangle of natural glowstone, with a bucket of water poured onto  the middle to take you to this angelic dimension. To return, either take the portal you entered in with, or simply leap from the stars into the empty void below. Becareful, gravity tends to kill. Limbo: There are many strange doors littered all throughout the world, to enter the space between spaces, simply walk through one. The inhabitants are fond of testing their inhabitants and are...not fond of visitors who intend to remain. If you want out, simply find the Red of the void of space and touch it. Death is always an escape. The End: There are periodic strongholds found deep beneath the earth. Craft an Eye of Ender, and toss it to follow it to above ground where these places area. Find the portal within the submerged ruins, and fill each opening with a new Eye of Ender to find the Void, though if you are a veteran to Minecraft, you will find MY End to also be...significantly different than what you remember. The Eldritch Palaces: Thaumaturgy is a dangerous art to those that over induldge in knowledge. This place can be reached by performing the Apertis Oculis ritual at an Eldritch ring, with a floating obsidian pylon. To learn the details of this ritual, you will need to ply all of your craft with the Thaumonomicon to find the knowledge you seek. The Sea of Sands: The secluded and distant dimension also known as the Atum can be found by establishing a 5x5 flat horizontal section of sandstone blocks, and a 3x3 hole in the center. Fill the center with flat water, and place 1 sandstone on top of each corner of the 5x5 barrier to honor the gods that stand watch there. Throw in a Scarab (made of a diamond surrounded by 4 gold bars in a crafting table) as sacrifice to change the water to a portal to the Atum. The Wyvern Queen's Lair: A small pocket plane, explorers may wish to explore more primal places. Gather a blaze rod, a unicorn horn, and an eye of enter to create a Wyvern Portal staff. Be careful, you will need it to get back home as the domain holder holds jealous control over entry... The Infinite Tropics: Created by a quiet traveller seeking refuge, this infinitely expanding tropical paradise contains a peaceful place to meditate beneath beautiful palm trees. The way to enter this paradise is drunk rather than constructed; gather a pineapple, a coconut or its shell, and a bamboo cup. Wait until sunset and drink in a beach chair to be pulled into bliss. Be careful, not all sources of bliss are keen on letting you leave. The Twilight Forest: The hidden faerie realms are carefully guarded by enchantments and illusions. To pierce the numbing barriers against entry, create a faerie circle by making a 4x4 empty circle flat on the ground out of normal dirt or podzol, then plant normal flowers such as tulips, daisies, or poppies in ring around a 2x2 center of still water. Throw a diamond into the water; if the guardians are appeased, a purple portal will appear. You can find more details in here: Link   There are more hidden places to explore than these, but if exploration were easy, nobody'd do it. Explore the garden, tend to it with your search for knowledge, and pay no heed to the whispers in the night telling you you've gone too far.
